Three ways to send messages: email for longer notes, text for quick phone-to-phone messages, and a DM inside an app.
Email, text, and a DM are three ways to send messages, here's the difference!
What is an email? Email is great for longer messages. It's a message sent to an email address, often used for longer notes, school, or sending files. (Like robot@school.com.)
What is a text? A text message is a quick message sent from phone to phone. It's often short and fast, great for "On my way!" or "See you soon!"
What is a DM? DM means Direct Message. It's a private message inside an app or platform, like a game, social app, or chat app. A DM lives inside an app.
The big difference. Email: longer, more formal, can send files. Text: quick, short, usually phone-to-phone. DM: a private message inside an app.
Kid examples. Email: "Hi teacher, here is my homework." Text: "Mom, soccer is over!" DM: "Want to join my game?"
When do I use each one? Email for class, clubs, and longer notes. Text for quick updates and fast replies. DM for chatting inside apps with friends or teammates. Only message people you know, and ask a grown-up if something feels weird.
Remember: email = a message to an email address, text = a quick phone message, and DM = a private message inside an app. They all send messages, just in different places!
Three messaging channels kids mix up. Email goes to an email address, suits longer notes and attachments, and works across any provider. Texts (SMS) are short messages tied to phone numbers, phone-to-phone. A DM (direct message) is a private message inside a specific app or platform (a game, social app, or chat app) and only works within it. Same goal, different addressing and reach — plus a safety note: only message people you know, and tell a grown-up if a message feels wrong.
