Every explainer answers the same five questions: what is it, how does it work, what can go wrong, how do we stay safe, and what should I remember. Each lesson page also has a For grown-ups section with a deeper note and trusted links.

Robot Explains is built to be safe for classroom and home use:

No accounts, no data collection, no ads. Nothing to sign up for and nothing tracked; a child's progress is saved only on their own device.
No social features. There's no chat, comments, or messaging, so a child cannot contact or be contacted by anyone through the site — meaning there's nothing that needs a parental gate.
Age-appropriate, calm content (including the safety topics), and no third-party embeds of any kind.

5-minute discussion plan

Show the poster (project it or print it).
Ask: “In your own words, what is it?”
Ask: “What could go wrong, and how do we stay safe?”
Finish: everyone names one thing they will remember.

15-minute classroom mini-lesson

Warm-up (2 min): ask what students already know about the topic.
Show (3 min): display the poster and read the explanation together.
Words to know (3 min): review the vocabulary list from the lesson.
What can go wrong (4 min): discuss the risks and the “how we stay safe” steps.
Exit ticket (3 min): each student writes one sentence: “The most important thing is…”

Vocabulary review sheet

Every lesson has a Words to know list with four kid-friendly definitions. For a quick review: cover the definitions and have students explain each term, or cover the terms and have them name the word from the definition. Mix terms from a whole learning path for an end-of-unit review.

Suggested age bands

Ages 7–9: start with Start Here and the Stay Safe Online path. Focus on the poster and the “what to remember” points.
Ages 10–12: add How the Internet Works and Smart Home Safety. Use the worksheet and the words-to-know list.
Ages 13+: ready for How Computers Work, AI Basics, and the Intermediate lessons, plus the “For grown-ups” links for deeper reading.

Conversation starters by category

Online safety: “What would you do if a message felt scary or too good to be true?”
Privacy: “What kinds of information should stay private, and why?”
How things work: “What happens between typing an address and the page appearing?”
AI: “Why might an AI sound sure but still be wrong, and how could you check?”
Kindness: “How can we treat people online the way we would in person?”

A safety note for grown-ups

These lessons are awareness-focused, not how-to, they explain what risks are and how to stay safe, without teaching anyone to cause harm. They're a starting point for conversation and supervision, not a replacement for it, and they are general educational content, not legal, medical, or professional security advice. Always pair them with a trusted adult's guidance and your school or family's own rules.
